I've been meeting people who play or have played D&D. All these people are excited (including me) about getting a campaign together.
Recently, I was at an Indian-themed garden party. A girl recognized me from many months ago. She is getting her PhD by studying a particular strain of bacteria. I love what people dedicate their loves to. The interesting thing about this young woman is that she plays D&D. We got to talking, and she's interested in playing, but we need to find the ever-elusive Dungeon Master.
She told me the most amazing story about how they found a DM (Dungeon Master) for a campaign. She was talking to a friend about what D&D is, and he was interested. He wanted to play, but there was no DM. A friend of his, when he was in the army, knew a guy who was supposed to be fantastic. The only problem was that he didn't know how to get in touch with him. The curious adventurer asked for the DM's name.
It turns out that this aspiring adventurer happened to also be a private investigator. It didn't take him long to track the DM down. He began tailing the DM, taking photos of him, finding out his schedules, seeing where he lives, works and hangs out. About a week after the spying began, the DM received a package at his front door with an envelope containing some photos of him and a letter saying: "We need your services. Be at [particular place] at [particular time]."
The DM actually showed up to a room-full of adventurers with characters made, waiting for him to arrive.
She said it was the most amazing group of players she has ever campaigned with.
Just a short tale for all those adventurers of old.....

Sounds like good fun. A bit creepy, but good fun.
