... or how i got to see the earth from above and the sky from earth

Last month :
- 1 week in France, death
- 1 week back in Israel, another death
- 1 week in NYC, cold life
- 1 week + in Niamey (Niger), hot life

As I am tired to speak about death
that surrounded me
that introduced it(his?her?)self to me in the form of
an indigestible cocktail of black mambo venom.
How I connected back to earth (i.e. life) seeing giraffes and hippos?
First time in Africa,
I have been exploring the continent for a year and a half now.
Looking at the sky there is no sun ; time for the harmattan, the wind of the desert that envelopes the landscape in a shroud of dust.
Yet, hot life.
Africa seems buried, looks condemned, smells problematic.
Yet, it sounds amazing. I was all ears there,
and my eyes followed.

Music to my arabic soul

I was born and raised in the middle east...
When i was 16 i hosted young people from Germany. When they got here, they asked me where are all the camels they heard about... I offered them to buy Camel cigarettes instead...
When i was 20, traveling in Guatemala i met an Aussie which asked me "how do you treat women in Israel?" - I angrily threw my beer on his head and said: "like bitches!".

Obviously I am not connected enough to my middle-eastern culture, because Israel is tryin so hard to look like the US, and I live in my Tel-avivian bubble.

Food and Music - that's where i find myself connected. very much.
Here you have this awesome blog for ethnic music -
Ethnic Blog not only middle-eastern, but same spirit - listen and your soul will open wide...

Athletics and Marijuana

Here's an interesting story talking about the connection between athletes and marijuana use. Funny, if it came from High Times,it wouldn't be so credible, but thank you Forbes.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama's Twitter Feed

The Dalai Lama has always been a great enthusiast of science and the boons created by science in technology. So I suppose it's not surprising that he has now created a feed on Twitter, the microblogging service that encourages very short, but frequent updates on your status. It's not really him keeping up the feed, but it's still amusing to see. Keep up with the 14th Big D here!

Raising kids is sort of like having part science experiment and part pet animal, huh?

Maple Syrup No More

In reference to this post from last month, http://flippinkites.blogspot.com/2009/01/if-sad-wasnt-already-bad-enoughthey-are.html
apparently the New York authorities have found the source of the smell: a New Jersey facility that processes fenugreek seeds for flavoring curry powders and some artificial flavors such as butterscotch and maple syrup. How nefarious!

Case closed...?

Kevin D

I am not a big fan of myspace - but I got a link to this guy's page, and his music is decent. He is completely small and local. But I like the way he thinks about music ....

from http://www.myspace.com/kevind

In the past four months I've realized that at one point in history music was made for the music, and people listened to an entire record before they started deciding what was their favorite song.
so go ahead and check out his music and download the whole album (or not)
